Behold
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is he on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who has a higher rank than I, for he existed before me.’” ~ John 1: 29-30
Climbing crags in parching wilderness,
Skin raw and stomach gnawing.
What did you see beyond those rocks?
Mirage or ghost
Or a Lamb walking toward you
As if on water that wasn’t there?
As if he even needed
One so wild and frail
To clear a path for him to walk
In sandals unfit to tie.
Currently reading an Advent devotional for Lent then writing a bit of response. The first piece was about John the Baptizer, making way for the coming of Christ. Sometimes the only way to process such moving words is with words.
Behold the Lamb of God is good stuff, by the way. For Lent, Advent, or any time really.
